As I predicted on Tuesday (based on all I was seeing), Donald Trump has been indicted this week.
It’s a 7-count indictment, and we still don’t know all the details, but according to his lawyers and sources, the charges include:
Willful retention of national defense secrets.
Obstruction of justice.
False statements and conspiracy.
We’re talking years in prison here, or — as Mark Levin says — Trump could literally die in prison. (Link to video below.)
Quick sidenote on hardcore conservative Mark Levin…
Back in 2016, he called Trump a “bully” and a man who used “dirty tricks and Nixonian tactics.” (Don’t tell conservatives that… Actually, on second thought, do.)
Given the massiveness of this news, I thought I’d share some instant reaction from Trump supporters, followed by the actual realities.
So buckle up and prepare thyself.
1. We don’t have a republic, according to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, who’s also an attorney…
Fact check: false.
2. Joe Biden indicted Trump, said by the leader of the House Republicans.
Fact check: false.
3. Trump just grabs things that aren’t his. (He means no harm.)
Fact check: false.
Also, Trump has said, 'I would have the right to do that.'
So, I’m not sure what argument they’re going to go with… But they need to get consistent on this. And fast.
4. Why does only Trump get investigated?
Fact check: he isn’t the only one.
Remember the Clinton investigations?
Also, her email investigation cost her the Presidency. (The Comey Letter Probably Cost Clinton The Election.)
Let’s also not forget that Biden is under investigation by a special counsel, and that Hunter Biden is under investigation, as well.
As a final bullet, remember that MAGA was all about locking up people until, well, I guess last night.
5. Trump used to care about this topic.
Fact check: true.
He did care about this topic. (While he was campaigning.)
And then he met behind closed doors with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, allowing ONLY a Russian Foreign Ministry photographer to be in the room — no U.S. media were allowed.
I would say this was a one-time thing, and give him the benefit of the doubt, but…
Trump gave classified information to the Russians during that White House visit.
And the Israelis were not too happy, because one of their sources were comprised. (Israeli Intelligence Furious Over Trump's Loose Lips.)
I’m sure this is just a coincidence, right?
I mean, it’s not like Trump also did this: Trump and Putin met one-on-one in a room for 2 hours.
Or that before he even became President, Jared Kushner considered setting up secret communications with Russia THROUGH the Russian embassy. (This link is from the Wall Street Journal; hardly “liberal” media.)
One final point on this one. Don’t forget that Helsinki summit, where Trump sided with Putin over US intelligence.
I’m sure all of that is just a coincidence. Not like Trump has ever lied about having business deals in Russia. (Trump pursued a deal in Russia and hid it from voters.)
6. Trump shouldn’t get too worked up over the indictment. His problems aren’t over.
Fact check: true. (Legal experts: Mark Meadows may have outplayed Trump — and Jan. 6 indictment may be “imminent.”)
7. This is still a dangerous time.
Fact check: true. But did you know, for all the talk of how corrupt and biased the DOJ and FBI is…
Current FBI Director Christopher Wray is a Republican, who was appointed by Trump and confirmed by every Republican in the U.S. Senate. (Wray also served as assistant attorney general during the George W. Bush administration.)
There has never been a Democrat lead the FBI as Director.1
Former Attorney General Bill Barr (who Trump appointed — remember, Trump claims he only hires the best people) said that this investigation was not a 'witch hunt.'
Most insanely, if Trump had simply returned these documents when he was asked, none of this would have happened… At least not this indictment.
And before all those on the Right say, “Why did we only arrest Jan. 6 offenders and not Black Lives Matter protestors?,” let me remind you that 10,000 BLM protesters were arrested and more than 300 face federal charges, including for “attempted murder, assaulting a law enforcement officer, arson, burglary of a federally-licensed firearms dealer, damaging federal property, malicious destruction of property using fire or explosives, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, unlawful possession of a destructive device, inciting a riot, felony civil disorder, and others.”
Can we all just agree that if you break the law, you should face consequences, regardless of political party, ideology, etc?
Love and peace,
Stan R. Mitchell

CLOSING THOUGHT: Do not despair in these coming days. The light of dawn is emerging, and nothing can stop light (or truth).
From The Washington Post: “There is a rich tradition of hiring someone from the opposition party. Democrat Jimmy Carter named Republican Judge William H. Webster to head the bureau in 1978. In the shadow of the Watergate scandal, Carter correctly concluded that naming a director from the other party would provide needed public confidence that the FBI was above politics. … Democrat Bill Clinton named Republican Louis Freeh as his FBI director. And, of course, President Barack Obama extended the term of one Republican FBI head, Robert Mueller, and replaced him with another Republican, James B. Comey, who had served as deputy attorney general in the preceding administration of George W. Bush.
Excellent summary and analysis! I was thinking of doing something similar, but I’m just going to refer everyone to this post, instead.
