Let's hope (and pray) more have their eyes opened this year
I don’t have anything super deep to share today; just a couple of political thoughts that I came across that really made me think.
The first thing I wanted to share is how Trump isn’t being covered — he’s getting so many free passes.
Trump can attack judges’ wives, claim he wants to be a dictator for a day, etc, and it just barely gets covered.
You can get a great explanation of this below (it’s worth watching if you have a few minutes).
The other one is the below post.
While part of me really thinks the electorate needs to be the one to decisively reject Trump and his agenda in 2024, the facts are we’ve already been doing this for years already.
Trump — and his party — have already lost the last five elections ( 2018, 2020, 2022 in red-state Kansas, 2023 in Wisconsin, and now in red-state Ohio).
So, what makes us think when Trump loses the presidential election for a second time in 2024 that it will be any different?
Trump will never accept an election defeat.
And unfortunately, some of his supporters may never accept it.
All we can hope for is that his aura of invincibility and infallibility begins to crumble and crack this year.
And I think that will happen.
With his business empire partially in a judge’s hands in New York, and too many criminal cases to easily cite, let’s hope the small portion of his base who fervently believes in him sees in 2024 what the majority of the country has been seeing for years.
That Trump is a man with a small grasp of history, a wreckless overconfidence in his business skills, and a heartless coldness toward others that’s hard to fully comprehend.
Trump will continue to cloak himself in Christianity, but I believe that in the end, truth always wins out.
And that truth will become more clear as this first civil case is decided soon and Trump has to start auctioning off properties.
The latest news on that case is here: Fate of Trump’s business empire to be decided in new year: What we know.
And in case you need a refresher, Trump already lost that case.
Ahead of the trial, on Sept. 26, Engoron issued a ruling finding that Trump overvalued the properties by hundreds of millions of dollars — and misrepresented his own worth by billions — while pursuing bank loans. Engoron's ruling was in response to a motion by James' office asking him to rule on certain allegations before the trial, which will now focus on other allegations in the lawsuit related to falsification of business records, issuing false financial statements, insurance fraud and conspiracy.
Engoron's ruling ordered the cancellation of Trump Organization business certificates and for an independent receiver to dissolve some of Trump's companies.
The question is down to how much he will be fined.
$250 million?
More?
Also, how many properties he’ll have to sell?
Besides even this, Trump also will have to open his checkbook for this case: Federal appeals court denies Trump’s effort to delay E. Jean Carroll civil trial.
This trial is just weeks away, as well.
Perhaps as these cases progress and actual facts emerge in all of them, at least some small portion of Trump’s supporters will see a bit clearer on what’s actually happening.
Let’s certainly hope that’s the case.
If we’re lucky, 2024 will be the year that more of Trump’s base sees that “the Emperor has no clothes.”
Love and peace,
Stan R. Mitchell
