Time for a campaign update
Hi friends!
Last time we talked, I posed the question, “Could Kamala Harris win North Carolina?”
Since then, a lot has happened.
The Republican candidate, Mark Robinson, has seen his campaign implode after CNN reported last week "a series of inflammatory comments” allegedly made by Robinson on a pornography website message board more than ten years ago. The postings ranged from support for reinstating slavery to calling himself a “black NAZI!”
Robinson has denied the allegations, but there’s quite a bit of proof against him. Worse, half of his staff has quit, days after campaign staff exodus.
Robinson is currently down by 11 points, according to the Hill.
And he has no ads reserved. (See below.)
So far, Trump hasn’t pulled his endorsement, but a week after everything went down, Trump is dodging questions about the situation.
Other than that, I’m assuming the campaign is going fine for him.
Remember: Four years ago during the last presidential election, Biden-Harris only lost North Carolina in 2020 by 1.3 percent.
As I shared last week, North Carolina polls close early at 7:30 p.m.
And state law allows processing of mail-in votes well before Election Day, making an early count possible.
Should Harris win North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes, Trump’s chances of victory diminish greatly. He would need a virtual sweep of other battleground states (and likely all of the blue-wall states).
In larger campaign news…
I feel like it’s been a good week for Harris. She has been speaking strongly about Ukraine, trying to peel off that small sliver of GOP supporters who are strong defenders of Ukraine. (You know, the old GOP base that loved Reagan and hated the Soviets. Remember them?)
Trump has done the exact opposite this week.
He has literally pulled student-council-level stupidity and said the following two things:
Both of those things are nuts and not true, of course. A brief recap of the actual facts of the Russian invasion.
You can listen to my podcast this week where I address his mis-statements (it even has timestamps), or you can see a couple of counterpoints below:
Regardless, I think Trump finally saw some numbers from his people the past few days on how stupid his comments were that he went from saying he wouldn’t meet with President Zelensky to meeting with him today.
Trump, standing next to Zelensky, promises a good deal for ‘both sides’ of Ukraine.
I, personally, don’t think ANYONE keeping up with the news (and I’m talking about that small sliver of the GOP here, not his MAGA base) will fall for Trump’s zig-zagging on Ukraine this week.
Quick historical recap:
Trump was impeached for his actions on Ukraine.
Trump held up aid (already approved by Congress) to Ukraine.
Trump has acted like a best friend of Putin since 2016, even trusting former KGB-man Putin over our own intelligence agencies.
I believe Trump has lost that sliver of the old GOP base that loved Reagan and hated the Soviets, and I think he’s going to lose North Carolina.
Despite all of this, let’s show you what the Right is thinking. (Spoiler: They’re convinced they’re going to win.)
The below items are all posts from Truth Social from today. (And I apologize for the language below. Some of these people don’t seem like nice people or use clean language, even though they regularly lean hard on the Christian label. Also, I’m not linking to these because I don’t want you entering that bastion of the Right. I know, I know. There are actually some nice people there.)
Words of encouragement:
Let’s end the post with some words of encouragement, because I know that life is hard and sometimes, you just need to hear something that will lift you up.
I always like to share some verses from the Bible, or quotes that touch on the Bible/Jesus, because my Christian faith has become such a source of strength and wisdom and calm for me during the past couple of years, since losing my Mom and now worrying an awful lot about my Dad and his serious memory problems.
I’m betting you have something really challenging going on in your life, as well. (And if you don’t, I can guarantee it’s coming. That’s how life goes.) So, I hope by sharing some of these, it might encourage you to get into the Bible yourself. Because I think it’ll change your life, if you let it.
'Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”' — Matthew 11:28-30
'Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. ' — Psalms 51:10-12
'Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. ' — Hebrews 10:23-25
'Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” ' — Hebrews 13:5-6
And, I always like to end each post with this one:
All posts are free, so feel free to share. (And in that line of thinking, it seems the social media sites throttle down my posts when they have a link to Substack, so if you could forward this to a person — or two — who might be interested, it’d sure help me a lot!)

P.S. Don’t forget that I also put out a weekly podcast about defense news and our military. Here’s that link:
I've also written twelve fast, exciting books.
Finally, I also write a faith blog about God and the Bible. (As a child, I was wounded badly by the church and left it to study other religions, before returning to the faith of my roots.)
