Hello, friends!
I wrote yesterday that the debate had been a disaster for President Biden, and I asked if it changed things. I wanted to provide you with another timely update.
Since writing that piece, a lot has happened.
First, President Biden gave a powerful rally in North Carolina. It was almost as though nearly losing it all after that debate re-ignited an old fire in him.
During the speech, he sharpened his campaign message, which had been overly broad and too full of stats in the past.
(Full remarks here — they are short and absolutely worth the read.)
Yesterday was really a tale of two stories. The professional pundits seemed inclined for Biden to step down from the race. The New York Times wrote an editorial stating he should, as did many other political writers.
But this seemed to anger and fire up the Biden base even more so.
And the fundraising numbers for Biden came in higher as I mentioned yesterday.
By the end of the day, former President Barack Obama weighed in, as did Biden confidant and friend James Clyburn.
With the statements by those two, the second-guessing was effectively over. (At least by Dems.)
Many were even saying that the debates don’t even matter.
Trump didn’t help himself by saying yet another absolutely foolish statement at his own rally yesterday. (It wasn’t shark/electric battery bad, but it was pretty bad nonetheless.)
In the end, Cornell Belcher and former GOP Chair Michael Steele both said Dems should rally around Biden as the GOP had rallied around Trump in 2016 following Trump’s comments about “grabbing women by the —.”
Belcher’s comments were widely shared by Dems online, and here’s the gist of what he said in two short clips.
Biden’s storm has passed (at least for now; and possibly for good), and Dems have rallied behind him for what’s going to be a tough fight in November.
All posts are free, so feel free to share.
Love and peace,
Stan R. Mitchell
P.S. Don’t forget that I also put out a weekly podcast about defense news and looming hotspots, which includes some motivation, wisdom, and history.
I've also written twelve fast, exciting books.
Finally, I also write a faith blog about God and the Bible. (As a child, I was wounded badly by the church and left it to study other religions, before returning to the faith of my roots.)
People still believe and have faith.
